From the 11,245-foot peak of its most recognized landmark, majestic Mount Hood, to the fertile Willamette Valley farms where homegrown specialties include tulips, berries, Christmas trees and wines, Oregon's Mt. Hood Territory is ripe with activities to be explored. Area offerings include historic tales stretching back to Pioneer days along the Oregon Trail and the Barlow Road, an abundance of festivals and events, diverse lodging and tax-free shopping. Year-round recreation for all skill levels stretches from the mountain (skiing, snowboarding and snowshoeing) to our rivers and lakes (white-water rafting, kayaking, fishing and swimming) our trails (mountain biking, hiking, climbing and horseback riding) and other activities such as golfing and camping.

The fun begins the moment you step aboard this century-old railroad. Dating from the early 1900s, the Excursion Train is comprised of enclosed Pullman coaches, a concession car offering light food and beverage, a red caboose and an open air car. Sit back, enjoy the great views and visit with friends and family as you travel along the river, through forests, meadows and numerous fruit orchards to the town of Parkdale. A live narration along the way covers local history and key points of interest. During the one hour layover, have a picnic in the park, sample local cafés, browse the gift shops, visit the Hutson Museum and take in stunning views of Mt. Hood. Be sure to bring a camera.

Nestled midway to the summit of Mt. Hood is Timberline Lodge, a National Historic Landmark and masterpiece of mountain lodges. Constructed of mammoth timbers and native stone in 1937, Timberline Lodge stands today as a tribute to the rugged spirit of the Pacific Northwest.
